‘Our OWN Christmas’ Makes 2020 Feel A Little Bit Better

Christmas music is nothing new to the gospel world. As Kirk Franklin and The Family so harmoniously reminded us, Jesus is the Reason for this season (Yes He is! Oh yes He is!). In fact, most gospel artists recognize this, as remixing Christmas music is nothing new to them. With 2020 being… well… 2020… Christmastime is the perfect season to highlight some of the vocalists who have determined to make this year a little brighter.

Opening with a powerful duet featuring Kierra Sheard and BJ The Chicago Kid performing “Little Drummer Boy”,Ā Our OWN Christmas showcased some of our favorite gospel artists paired with top R&B singer/songwriters for some dope and unique remixed Christmas classics. Premiering on the OWN Network and hosted by husband and wife duoĀ DeVon Franklin and Megan Good, the hour-long celebration was filled with positivity, tender moments, and some “real good” singing.

From PJ Morton and Lalah Hathaway’s jazzy rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, to a Twitter favorite, “Oh Holy Night”, by Le’Andria Johnson, it was hard not to sing along. Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight’s version of “Let it Snow” took us all back with the perfect blends and harmonies we’ve all come to expect from these musical legends.

With COVID still very much prevalent and social distancing measures being practiced religiously, Our Own Christmas managed to pull off a beautifully choreographed evening of music and fun. The well-synchronized duets continued with The Walls Group and The Shelby 5 performing a multilayered medley of “Mary Did You Know” and “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. The legendary Clark Sisters were paired with Erica Campbell, presenting a masterful mashup of “Joy To The World” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”. The special closed out with a classic church side hug from Ne-Yo to Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, after their rendition of “The Christmas Song”.

The special was sprinkled with heartwarming giveaways to families making a difference during the pandemic, and each featured artist talking about what they love about the holidays. All in all, this joyful celebration definitely brought in the Christmas Spirit and was a solid kick-off to “the most wonderful time of the year”, asĀ every performance was what you would expect from a slew of Grammy winners.

The Christmas special is the first of two OWN music specials produced by Holly Carter’sĀ RelevĆ© Entertainment, which produced the acclaimed biopicĀ The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of GospelĀ for Lifetime this spring.Ā Our OWN Christmas is part of a first-look deal Carter and RelevĆ© now have with the network, also announced earlier this year.

Catch the replay on the OWN Network, or via the OWN Network app.

I would to know the name and age of the little boy who was playing drums on the first song. Looked on the internet and could not find it anywhere.

I hope this is the right reply to the Christmas Special that was on OWN. You guys neglected to mention the little boys name that was playing little drummer boy, while Kiara Sheard was singing? They were the opening act. If I were his parents I would feel some type of way. Lol! Ijs.
